Probation Officer I post is required to provide offenders with high quality and professional services that support and encourage transformation into productive citizens. A POI I is required to conduct investigations and prepare relevant reports for the Court, Conditional Release Board, and partner agencies using offender management assessment tools to assist with critical decision-making processes. In addition, the POI post supervise offenders in the community within the terms set by the Court or the Conditional Release Board. 

 

Practical experience in case work within the Criminal Justice System; plus at least five (5) years of relevant working experience in a similar service-providing agency.  Specific experience in the following areas is required:

 

  • Observation and experience of Courtroom procedures and ordinances relevant to probation work
  • Research and study of the local laws that pertain directly and indirectly to the services provided by the DCR
  • Application of principles, practices and techniques of case investigation, report writing, assessment and case planning
  • Observation of and interaction with client supervision under professional guidance within a probation office, parole office or correctional facility
  • Actual case work and supervision in a probation office, parole office or correctional facility
  • Ability to develop, implement and facilitate evidence-based programmes and group work
  • Experience and knowledge of behavioral patterns, including offending behaviors, criminality, substance abuse, mental health issues, etc.
